Wine element art

@syndicatewines

The use of wood in these works reminds us of the connection between nature and wine. All works are individually designed, hand-built. Some use up-cycled chandeliers from the Habitat for Humanity Restore. For pieces made with wine barrels, old barrels are sourced from local wineries.

Artist Statement

As a child, my father continually worked on the house and built things in the garage. Years later, I realized I had inherited this same gene. Tinkering, creating, building… whatever was before me became my medium of choice.

When Angela and I were preparing to open Syndicate, I began designing different elements of the bar that I could construct myself, or learn how to build. Hundreds of hours later in my own garage, I realized that I had created a body functional artwork.

From wooden wine storage shelves, to hardwood slab bar tops and tables, up-cycled chandeliers and custom electrical work… even booth seating benches… all can be found at Syndicate Wine Bar. My latest additions to the dining room are sound panels constructed from wooden wine boxes and corks, which help dampen sound on busy nights.

I now produce functional art for office or home installation. I invite you to inquire about the type of work you are interested in being created. It all starts with your ideas, that initial spark of inspiration! I guarantee that whatever I build for you is a one-of-a-kind piece you will not find anywhere else in the world.

Personal Dedication Piece

The Anderson Story

My father, Elam Anderson was born in Shanghai, China, the son of two educators. The family returned to the United States in the years prior to WWII, bringing with them a story of cultural richness.

The name, “Anderson” was phonetically translated into Chinese as “An-di-fan”, or “Place of Peace”. The symbol of An (or “Heaven”) became our family’s crest.

After the eventual passing of my parents, our family gathered on the Oregon coast for a final memorial of the two. I collected rocks and shells from the beaches around Yachats, Oregon (my parents’ own place of “heaven”) and recreated the symbol of An as a memorial piece, using a former hard-top table to create a wall-mounted piece that was coated in epoxy resin and now hangs in Syndicate’s bottle shop.
