In this class, we will cover eight of Oregon’s 23 different appellations, or distinct wine growing regions, starting with the Willamette Valley, and seven smaller regions located with it. Each region is known for producing distinct Pinot Noir wines with particular attributes.

As part of the class, we will examine what makes each appellation unique, in terms of climate, geology, soil composition, and other factors impacting how grapes are grown and wines are
produced.

Description

This class covers specific appellations (AVAs) of Oregon. To prepare, you will want to source the following eight (8) Pinot Noir wines. If you cannot find them, a suitable alternative is to source other Pinot Noirs from the same AVAs. Vintage is not as important as the appellation!

  • Syndicate Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley AVA)
  • Torii Mor Estate Pinot Noir (Dundee Hills AVA)
  • Hoy Vineyard Pinot Noir (Chehalem Mountains AVA)
  • ROCO Marsh Estate Pinot Noir (Yamhill-Carlton AVA)
  • Eola Hills Wedding Block Pinot Noir (Eola-Amity Hills AVA)
  • Montinore Estate Pinot Noir (labeled Willamette Valley, but really Tualatin Hills AVA!)
  • Ponzi Laurelwood District Pinot Noir (Laurelwood District AVA)
  • Trisaetum Ribbon Ridge Pinot Noir (Ribbon Ridge AVA)

Recommended Additional Class

This class focuses on winegrowing regions of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Class 2 takes a broad approach to the entire State, including three other regions. It is available for purchase and download through this online store.
