In this class, we look back over the past thousand years of recorded history, covering noteworthy wars and political strife, economic battles, and friendly competitions focused on grapes, and sample nine different wines at the center of these conflicts.

This class covers a variety of white and red wines from across the planet. To prepare, you will want to source the following nine (9) kinds of wines, available in the Pacific Northwest wine market. If you cannot find them, a suitable alternative is to source varietals and blends from other producers — just try to find them from the same regions as noted below:

  • Saint-Bris Sauvignon Blanc from Burgundy, France
  • Napa Valley Chardonnay
  • Chianti Classico Reserva from Tuscany, Italy
  • Moulin-à-Vent Gamay Noir from Beaujolais, France
  • Nebbiolo from Piedmont, Italy
  • Côte de Beaune-Villages Pinot Noir from Burgundy, France
  • Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Merlot-dominant Bordeaux red wine
  • GSM (Grenache-Syrah-Mourvèdre red blend) from southern France
  • Napa Valley Zinfandel
